The beauty of hip-hop is that it can serve as an educational tool as well as a form of entertainment. The year is 1993 and A Tribe Called Quest drops their third studio album "Midnight Marauders" a month before my 13th birthday. On this album, the second song is titled "Steve Biko (Stir it up)" and it is an excellent start to a classic album...but who's Steve Biko? This is where the educational part comes in. An African Nationalist and African Socialist from an ideological standpoint, Biko was at the forefront of the anti-apartheid movement, the Black Consciousness Movement. He was murdered for his opposition to the evils of Apartheid at the age of 30.
